Find duplicate UTM parameters before sending a campaign
A URL can contain utm_campaign twice. One analytics system may use the first value while another uses the last. That inconsistency makes a campaign’s destination harder to interpret even when the page loads successfully.
A practical check
- Copy the final destination URLs, including all query parameters. Use one URL per line.
- Check that utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign each appear once and have a value.
- Inspect every reported duplicate in the source link. Remove the unwanted parameter, then run the check again.
Example
https://shop.example.com/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=spring&utm_campaign=summer Result: utm_campaign appears more than once.
Know the scope
CampaignLint parses query parameters rather than searching for a substring. It can therefore identify repeated required fields, empty values and differently cased parameter names. It does not edit your links or follow a redirect. Check the final resolved destination separately if the campaign uses a tracking redirect or a short-link service.
